Janet Roller - Living Oak Ministries

My photo
Hi. I'm Janet Roller: wife of one, mother of two, lover of coffee and writer of songs. I have just finished my first fiction novel and I'm looking forward to watching how God uses the simple story to minister to others. God is a big deal to me. My goal each day is to wake up and declare, "This day is Yours, Lord. Show me what to do with it."

A Healthy Glow - The "Son" Looks Good on You.

The sun comes up every morning, right?
This morning held a surprise for us as we rushed around to get ready for school. Because of our house's position, we can witness the sunrise each day. Some days, although it is should always amaze us, it is just the sun coming up. But other days, it's like God is showing off. That was today.
Pinks, oranges, purples and all colors in between painted an everchanging backdrop for the outline of leafless trees. "Come look at the sunrise!" I yelled to my kids.
As my 5-year-old daughter looked at the sun coming up over the neighbor's house. She quickly moved from enjoying God's work to wondering why God wouldn't let the sun come up over our house.
"Well, if the sunrise was over our house, we wouldn't be able to see it everyday through our kitchen window."
Satisfied with that answer - she went on to finish up the morning activities.
Just then I realized her reaction of jealousy and "why can't I have that?" creeps into my heart too. Instead of enjoying the work around us that God is doing...we just want Him all to ourselves.
Let's face it...we are not all going to be "Beth Moore" or "Billy Graham"... but we can be who God intended us to be. When we sit under the teaching of such inspired people, especially if you feel called into ministry, it is easy to say - "Why can't I have that?", "Why can't I write/speak/witness/encourage like that?"
Instead, thank God that you were able to take in His handiwork and creation - Be what He called You to be: your position, your vantage point, your ministry. If you spend all your time wishing the "Son" would rise over you, you miss the fact that He just did.
Take in some "Son" today - the glow looks good on you.

Sometimes it’s easy to believe that God only chooses certain people to carry out His plan. We believe that if we weren’t called to greatness like Billy Graham or Mother Theresa then we weren’t called at all. I am here to tell you that is not true. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. (Romans 1:6 NIV) God has a great plan for each of us. How great it is depends on us, whether or not we choose to follow His path or not. It is easy to get caught up in the busyness of life and think we don’t have the time or energy to find God’s plan for our lives. Or we can believe the myth that God doesn’t need us. He does need us and He will use us. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10 NIV) -- That is from my book Woven. When I read your post, it reminded me of that. Great post.

Thanks for the reminder. BTW, you might just stand a chance at being the next Sandy Patty. Spencer still wants to know how many million copies you are going to sell.

How true! God does have a special place for each of us. What is ever so important is that we submit to His will and BE where HE wants us to be and not follow the path of our own will!
